Prime Minister Rejects Former CNRP Members’ Requests

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen has rejected the political rehabilitation request of the two former CNRP senior officials due to violations against the law. The two former senior officials of Cambodia National Rescue Party, CNRP, whose requests were denied are Nhim Kim Nhol and Choung Chou Ngy. According to the Prime Minister, had gathered former CNRP activists in Thailand and outsiders preparing a plot to overthrow the government when convicted Sam Rainsy claimed to repatriate on 9 November 2019. Sihanoukville Provincial Court has issued an arrest warrant and is preparing for the trial of Nhim Kim Nhol on charges of conspiracy.

The Prime Minister has added that Ngy has fabricated the Law on the Election of Members of the National Assembly through the social media to mislead the public in 2018. The National Election Committee filed and submitted this complaint to the Ministry of Justice for review. The case is currently under the authority of Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

As of July 2021, at least 22 of the banned CNRP politicians were rehabilitated, including former top advisor Kong Korm and lawmaker Kong Bora.
